SMI Lost Track of the Week: ‘Diamond Avenue’ by Dave Stewart & The Spiritual Cowboys

Those of you familiar with the Eurythmics body of work may also know that the male half of the UK 80’s hit makers Dave Stewart is an accomplished producer and songwriter in his own right. Aside from producing artists such as Tom Petty, he also had his own outfit called Dave Stewart and The Spiritual Cowboys. Stewart formed the band in 1990. One of my favorite numbers from Dave’s pet project is a catchy almost “Dylanesque” number entitled “Diamond Avenue.”

Not only is the song grab the listener with a catchy hook on the chorus, the production value provides some interesting ear candy, but what may be most impressive is the prophetic, clever and powerful lyrical content.

The track is not available on iTunes but you can listen to it right here.

You can read the lyrics while taking a trip down Diamond Avenue….
