Alina Shanin

Alina Shanin moved to Seattle to pursue a journalism career, where she quickly decided on music writing after discovering the bubbling local music scene. She discovered her love for writing while attending Spokane Community College and working for The Sasquatch Times at 16.

Alina moved on to Eastern Washington University to attain a bachelor’s in journalism where she worked for The Easterner, a winner of the National Scholastic Press Association award. After graduation, she worked for HomeTeam Sports Magazine in Spokane, WA, throughout its existence and perfected different styles of writing and photography.

Moving to Seattle opened up lots of opportunities for her, including writing and copy editing at Real Change, a local publication dedicated to helping the homeless community in Seattle by providing them work and a chance to turn their lives around.

Alina also volunteered as a copy editor for an online fashion magazine Sorean and has been contributing to a growing Seattle music blog The Puget Playlist. With so much to capture and so much music to be a part of, she’s been inspired to preserve and promote the best bands in the area. She’s a dedicated writer who’s following her passion of discovering great musicians, experiencing new music and giving credit where it’s due. You might find her at a local show looking for something fresh and new to write about and possibly promote.

Alina will write show and live and reviews for SMI
