Murder City Devils @ The Showbox (Photo by Alex Crick)
Hardcore Murder City Devils fans filled The Showbox so full that apparently the only room for more was, well, on top of the crowd. They had reason to celebrate, though, as MCD have released a new album this month entitled The White Ghost Has Blood on its Hands Again and are embarking on their first tour in several years.
The night started off with Deep Creep, which is Andrea Zollo’s (Pretty Girls Make Graves) new project that happens to also feature Murder City Devils’ bassist Derek Fudesco. The crowd surfing became matter of course as MCD’s set played out; the set was high energy on and off of the stage. The one disappointment that racked the masses was the omission of “Boom Swagger Boom.” SMI photog extrordanaire Alex Crick was on hand to capture the madness.

Christine Mitchell has been poring over album liner notes pretty much since she acquired the skill of reading, and figured out the basic structure of rock songs at an early age. Whether it’s the needle popping into the first groove of the record, the beeps that signal the beginning (or end) of a cassette tape, or digital numbers ticking off the seconds from zero, music brings Christine happiness, ponderous thought, opportunities for almost scientific study, and sometimes a few tears. When she started attending live shows two decades ago, a whole new piece of the puzzle clicked in and she has been hooked ever since.
