There are many artists and musicians out there today who write their fair share of albums, each one a standalone experience. Patrick Droney’s albums and EPs are more than a part of a story. They are his story. They are our story. Stories of the heart, of life, of experience. When you are able to experience seeing Patrick Droney live on stage, it surmounts what plays through your headphones, car stereo or record player. His presence on stage is like a star shinning brighter than any stage light. Patrick always gives his all: his voice a work of art, his lyrics straight from the heart, his guitar pouring out pure soul.

Patrick Droney’s debut full length EP, The State Of The Heart (May ’21) was an experience of love, where we are, how we got there and what it’s all been about- even the question of what is it all about. I was able to see him live in Seattle on that tour when he was promoting that EP last spring, and enjoyed his performance, his stories, and his honest emotions he shared while playing songs. He drew me in, and I couldn’t wait to hear what he had planned for his next chapters. More stories, more feelings and definitely more music.

His latest EP, Subtitles For Feelings (Aug ’23) are those next chapters, perhaps some of the answers to life’s questions. In some ways, the “ah-ha” moments of it all. Whether they be a slow pace through his memories, our memories, or a vivid moment of his everyday experiences that resonate to our own. To be able to experience and be a part of that story, being a part of the crowd while Patrick makes the connections with us all through his stories and everyday moments is a real treasure. His show last week at McMenamins Spanish Ballroom in Tacoma was one of those experiences. Opening for this tour, he brought out Tennessee native, Cecilia Castleman. At just 22 years old, this was her first national tour and she shared original songs, playing solo on both her acoustic and electric guitar.

As for Patrick, where will the stories lead him, us? He did recently move back to Brooklyn, and he seemed very excited about that next chapter in his life. For now, we can enjoy where he has taken us so far, the chapters he has written, the feelings and stories he has shared, and wait to see where he takes us next.
