Fans packed The Neptune last Thursday to witness Australian psychedelic rock band Wolfmother, who did not disappoint. They’ve been compared to classic rockers Black Sabbath and AC/DC; and by virtue of some impressive guitar riffs, it’s not a leap to compare frontman Andrew Stockdale to legendary ’60s axeman Jimi Hendrix. But the three band members of Wolfmother create their own unique sounds, making them one of a kind. Their debut album, Wolfmother (’05) garnered the band more than two dozen musical award nominations and nine wins, including one Grammy. Their singles “Woman,” “Dimension,” “Joker and the Thief,” and “Love Train” have been used in TV commercials, video games, and films; so chances are, most people have heard their music but may not be aware of the band. Wolfmother has endured many member changes, and after a temporary “split” in 2013, they returned to touring and recording, releasing a third album in March 2014, New Crown.
Those who like stellar guitar, bass, and drum solos, and want to see a band who creates sounds unique to today’s music that is remniscent of great ’60’ and ’70s music, will enjoy seeing Wolfmother in concert.
