SMI Contributor Jason Tang shares his brilliant photos and highlights from the Ben Folds Five show, which took place Monday, 2/4/13

Piano man and singer Ben Folds stepped into town and wowed a sold-out crowd with a stunning display of virtuosity and pizazz. The concert provided many great photo opportunities and fun highlights, such as Ben forgetting the words to Hold That Thought, and I quote:

“Most of the time I forget the words and I just sing some other bullshit.  I kinda like this song, so I won’t fuck the words up.”

Folds then proceeds to sing the next few verses by himself before Darren Jessee (drums) and Robert Sledge (bass) join back in.

After an impromptu version of Peaches & Herb’s 1979 hit single Reunited, Ben said,

“This one is a little more thought out and better rehearsed than that last song.”

The band then played Battle Of Who Could Care Less, with the crowd singing the horn call-and-response part of Army.

Ben’s percussive piano pyrotechnics were on full display.  His personality is as engaging as his chops, and the audience loved every minute of it.
