In terms of chart hits, Bananarama is the most successful female singing group in UK pop history. The group is best known for the chart-topping singles such as Venus, Cruel Summer, I Heard a Rumor, and many more.
In addition, Bananarama enjoyed regular rotation on the fledgling video channel, MTV, in the early to mid 80s. They participated in the historical video, Do They Know it’s Christmas? by Band Aid. The project included a list of British superstars such as Sting, Bono, Duran Duran, George Michael, Phil Collins, and a host of others.
The group that once functioned as a trio now performs as a duo.
This past Saturday night, founding Members, Karen Woodward and Sara Dalin stepped up on Seattle Hard Rock Cafe Stage and took fans on a fun musical journey through the 80s with a live performance of some of their greatest hits. Bananrama was backed by a very capable 4-piece band, and the two male backup dancers added to the visual aspect of the show. Some fans travelled down from Vancouver, Canada to see the group do their thing for Cancer Awareness via PINKOCTOBER 2012.
The Hard Rock was packed to the rafters for the show. Woodward and Dalin were in fine voice, delivering one hit after another in their trademark vocal style, with a visually sexy and smooth performance. They flirted with the dancers and the dancers returned the favor. Bananarama worked the room like the seasoned pros that they are. It was clearly apparent that the lovely ladies were having as much fun as their fans were. It was a great night of classic British pop for a very worthy cause.
